Rich tone and spectacular veining as well as luxurious and elegant look of the marble are characteristics that convince many customers to choose this material for their countertop needs. However, marble is not recommended as a kitchen countertop because it's softer and more prone to scratching and staining than granite. A marble countertop performs well in the bathrooms, powder rooms, or as a tabletop or fireplace surround. Marble countertop requires special care and maintenance. It has to be resealed annually and all spills must be cleaned up immediately because there is always a possibility of staining. The stains on the marble tops are usually acid etched stains and have to be cleaned using non-acidic cleaners. Obeying a couple of simple rules will preserve marble's beauty and will last for generations.
